Ridgway-type handle group
Loop handles,  with two dents or "kicks" along the bottom which can be clear, or subtle, or merge into a single "kick" .  These handles can be divided into two groups: heavy and light. Few of these cups can be traced to a factory but these handles were made by: Charles Bourne, "Factory Z", Hicks and Meigh, Miles Mason, Minton, S & J  Rathbone, Ridgway, and a number of other unidentified makers. (Examples illustrated are attributed to makers in bold.)

Heavy Ridgway-type handles
 This group includes Ridgway, Hicks and Meigh, Rathbone and unknown makers. Distinctions between the handles and cups are quite subtle. More examples can be found on the pages for Ridgway, Factory Z, Hicks and Meigh, Rathbone.
Ridgway
Generous loop handle, with two gentle kicks.  Finely potted with even wall thickness and some with very finely crazed glaze, others in clear white body (more details on Ridgway page). 
Ridgway cup with "loop" handle with two gentle kicks along the lower edge. Fine potting in creamy body with slight flare at lip, glaze finely crazed.  Foot recess shallow with curved edges. Came with "new oval" sucrier marked 334 (see right). (see p250 in Emmerson, 1992)  (aj167, h54.8, w84.8, b39.1 handle: h15.5, v30.6, 18.3, k30.1, w7.2, 5.6, t4.4)

Ridgway cup with "loop" handle with two gentle kicks.  Very fine potting in translucent white body. Shallow foot recess with vertical sides. Decorated in puce bat print with silver lustre lines (same as new oval teapot plate 1293, Miller and Berthoud,1985). Thick "Ridgway-type" with two gentle kicks
 Thick loop handle with two gentle kicks very similar to actual Ridgway but thicker.  Cup finely potted with even wall thickness, slight flair at lip and white or creamy body .

Factory Z and Rathbone types
 Loop handle with two gentle kicks and rounded upper attachments.  Lower attachment is rounded for factory Z and narrow and pointed for Rathbone. Finely potted with even wall thickness. 

 A cup with a Ridgway-style "loop" handle with two gentle kicks along the lower edge. Lower handle attachment narrow and pointed. Creamy body with finely crazed glaze. Pattern similar to figures 26 and 28  in Ironside (1999). Lines painted on "knuckles" of kicks on handle.  Suggest Rathbonepattern 35, "yellow shell".  (aj209, h58.5, w81.3, b 37.1 (42.1) handle: h13.9, v26.7, w6.3. 4.7) See  Rathbone page.

A cup with a Ridgway-style "loop" handle with two gentle kicks along the lower edge. Upper and lower attachments rounded. White bone-china body. Possibly Factory Z?? (aj053, h58, w80.3, b39.8 handle: h15.2, v29, w9, 7.1) See  Factory Z page.
Hicks and Meigh
 Loop handle with two gentle kicks, more generous than Ridgway with more rounded profile (see fig 23 in  Ironside, 1998).  Finely potted with even wall thickness, and very finely crazed glaze. Slight flair at rim. More details on Hicks and Meigh page)  
Hicks and Meigh  cup with a Ridgway-style "loop" handle with two gentle kicks along the lower edge. Distinct flair at rim. Creamy body and very finely crazed glaze. Shallow foot recess with gently curved edge. Came with slop bowl in same pattern with 29 on base (see right 5mm). This is Hicks and Meigh number (Ironside, 1999). A cup with a Ridgway-style "loop" handle with two gentle kicks along the lower edge. Finely crazed creamy body, slight flare at rim. Shallow foot recess with gently curved edge. Decorated with hand coloured red transfer. From teaset with new oval teapot marked with pattern 35 in red (see right). Possibly  Hicks and Meigh? (aj130, h55.8, w87.8, b39.2  handle: h16.4, v30.2, 18.6, k30.1, w7.4, 5.9, t4.6)
Rathbone
 Generous loop handle with two very gentle kicks with a  line painted across the "knuckle" of each kick.  Finely potted with even wall thickness, slight flair at lip and white body.  More details on Rathbone page.
 A cup with a Ridgway-style "loop" handle with two gentle kicks along the lower edge. Clear white body. Inside of footrim curved and has accumulation of greenish glaze. Comparison with picture from Margaret Ironside and presence of lustre lines painted on "knuckles" of kicks on handle suggest Rathbone.  (aj057, h57.4, w82.6, b40.7 (45.1) handle: h17.1, v29.3, w6.7, 4.9)
 b with a Ridgway-style "loop" handle with two gentle kicks along the lower edge. Clear white body. Inside of footrim curved and has accumulation of greenish glaze. Comparison with picture from Margaret Ironside and presence of blue lines painted on "knuckles" of kicks on handle suggest Rathbone.  (aj224, h58.7, w84.5, b42.3 (46.1) handle: h17.5, v29.5, w6.7, 5.0)
 A cup with a Ridgway-style "loop" handle with two gentle kicks along the lower edge. Creamy body with finely crazed glaze. Inside of footrim has accumulation of crazed greenish glaze. Comparison of pattern with figure in Ironside (1999) and presence of  lines painted on "knuckles" of kicks on handle suggest Rathbone but dimensions and handle shape are different?  (aj209, h58.5, w81.3, b 37.1 (42.1) handle: h13.9, v26.7, w6.3. 4.7)
 A cup with a Ridgway-style "loop" handle with two gentle kicks along the lower edge. Whitish body with dark spots and fine glaze crazing in places especially under foot. Inside of footrim has accumulation of crazed greenish glaze.  Similar to aj209 so suggest Rathbone?  (aj209, h57.5, w81.7, b 37.6 (42.6) handle: h13.8, v27.6, w6.4, 4.6)
"Ridgway-type" with one strong kick
 Thick loop handle with one strong kick but still has second smaller kick.  Cup finely potted with even wall thickness, slight flair at lip and white or creamy body .

Light Ridgway-type handles
 This group includes Charles Bourne and many other unknown but probably Staffordshire makers of very fine, translucent bone china cups with  even wall thickness,  which were often decorated with lustre scenes or patterns. For more examples see the Lustre Group.
Charles Bourne
 Small loop handle with two gentle kicks.  Finely potted with even wall thickness,  and white body with brown specs and straw transparency.

  A lustre cup with a "Ridgway" type handle with a single strong kick. No marks. (aj059, h54.9, w83.7, handle: h14.8, v25.2, w6.8)
"Ridgway-type" with single kick and chinese seal mark
 Loop handle with single kick and rounded upper and lower attachments. Transfer "seal" mark on base.  Finely potted with even wall thickness. See also Lustre group.and page about Chinese seal marks.
A cup with a "Ridgway" type handle with a single strong kick. Rim has 22 gilt scallops (2 much smaller than the rest). "Seal" mark with letters J T M N clear on saucer (see right top, h11.5mm) but not on cup (see right, h7.6mm). (aj109, h58, w84, b39 handle: h14.5, v26.5, w6.2, 5)
  A cup with a "Ridgway" type handle with a single strong kick. Rim has 18  scallops. "Seal" mark possibly with letters J T  on saucer (see right top, h9mm) and on cup (right , h6.7mm).  (aj127, h57.5, w85.1, b41 handle: h14, v26.7, w6.5, 5.2)
