Grainger - New Oval teaset 

The  "new oval" teaset would have had a teapot, teapot stand, slop bowl, sugar box or sucrier, creamer, bread and butter plates,  bute shaped tea cups and possibly also coffee cans, and saucers.   Examples of teapots in this group are illustrated in plates 1177 to 1181 in Miller and Berthoud (1985).  Teasets made by Grainger are similar to those made by another Worcester maker Chamberlains. Grainger teapots can be distiguished by knob shape and the very large end to the spout. Grainger sucriers have a similar knob to the teapots. (main Grainger cup page) 

New oval teapot  in white hybrid hardpaste body with good glaze. Decorated with hand gilding over broad blue band. Spout has very large end compared to similar Chamberlain teapot. Marked inside lid as below. (a162 )

New oval teapot  in white hybrid hardpaste body with good glaze. Decorated with handpainted pattern. Spout has very large end. Knob distinctive, large pouring guard and 16 hole diamond shaped strainer inside. Handpainted pattern number 133 in puce on base. (aj669 Base length 120 mm, width 94 mm.)

New oval sugar box or sucrier. Decorated with handpainted pattern and gilt lines (rubbed in places). Marked with gray painted pattern number 302 on base..  (aj032 Base length 104mm, width 169mm)
Bread and butter plate. Handpainted design with purple lines. Marked on base with pattern number 133 (6mm high). (aj003 diam 218 mm)
Grainger new oval creamer with  handle with small thumbrest. Slightly creamy body. Spout cracked and glaze rubbed. No marks but came with service with typical Grainger "new oval" teapot as above. the base is near to a circle. (aj498 base length 65mm, width 60mm)
Grainger cup with a large "ring" handle which is round in cross section. The triangle under the ring has one long and two equal sides.. There is no mark but came in service with typical Grainger "new oval" teapot as above. (aj500, w82.9, h60.2, b 38.5 (45.7) handle: v17.3, h17.8 (24.8), w6, 4.6)
Grainger cup with a large "ring" handle as above. This cup has no mark but it matches a Grainger Worcester "new oval" shape sucrier and teapot with patt. 302 painted on the base. (aj429, h60.5, w82.3, b40.3 (46.8) handle: v17.6, h18.4, w6, 4.7)
Grainger cup with a large "ring" handle which is round in cross section. This cup has no mark but it came from a service with a typical Grainger Worcester "new oval" shape teapot with patt. 133 painted on the base. (aj005, h59.4, w82.2, handle: v17.6, h18.4, w6.4)
A coffee can with a large ring handle, round in section and with rounded lower attachment. 16 flutes. Ring handle round in section. Finely potted in body with slightly straw transparency. Foot recess  with bevelled edges. Probably Grainger Worcester  (aj626, h62.4, w66.6, b52 (61.5) handle: h17.8, v17.2,  w5.6, 4.3, t4.9)
