The "lustre" group

All these cups have rather delicate or "light" Ridgway-type handles with two "kicks" along their lower edge. Most handles are less than 7mm in width. Nearly all of these cups are unmarked and at present very few can be linked to their makers (eg Charles Bourne). Since they are finely potted in bone-china, it is likely that they were made in the Stoke-on Trent area where the trade directories list many bone-china manufacturers who were also lusterers. Much of this ware is decorated in pink lustre. Some of these makers may have worked in Longton. |

When identification is not possible all we can do is to group the cups by the features of their handles, body and decoration. |

Many cups and saucers with oriental style blue transfer decoration have "seal" marks on the base. These imitate marks on Chinese porcelain in the Seal script.
