Wedgwood Bute cups

Wedgwood made Bute shaped cups over a very long period from around 1812. Since their styles remained similar and they revived "old" designs and patterns, dating can be confusing. Nearly all wares are marked WEDGWOOD and, apart from the "Spode" type, their handle styles have an elegant simplicity.

Simple loop handle, bone china
Wedgwood cup with a simple "loop" handle, eye- shaped in section with rounded top and somewhat pointed lower attachment. Delicate potting in bone china with WEDGWOOD printed  in brick red on the base. Beautiful white translucency. Bone china was first made in 1812 ( see des Fontaines in Godden, 1983). Bute cup with a simple "loop" handle, eye- shaped in section with rounded top attachment . Tidy potting in bone china but not marked on the base. Fine flower painting. Simple loop handle, pottery
 Light weight potting,  even wall thickness and flat bottom inside with distinct corner between side and bottom.   Shallow foot recess. Handle smooth (not made in mould) and smooths into cup at top and bottom.
